Taking Farewell of "The Emigrants"

(Bucharest, 01.11.2017 - 03.11.2017) The Athénée Palace Hilton Bucharest hosted the Artmark Autumn Art Sale "100 Greatest Masters of Romanian Art", which took place on November 2nd, 2017. Incidentally, during the preliminary exhibition, the three auction winners formed a group round the same column in the hotel lobby. Three masterpieces from three different artist generations from three differnt backgrounds, but all together standing for the variety of Romanian art.

Foyer of the Athénée Palace Hilton Bucharest
Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907) • Peasant Woman with Headscarf [€ 50,000]
Max Herman Maxy (1895-1971) • Three Friends [€ 40,000]
Adrian Ghenie (1977-) • Firearm (Casemates) [€ 40,000]
"The Emigrants", Octav Băncilă's artwork, which I bought in Bucharest back in the 1990ies, at my place lived always in the shadow, so it's time to exhibit it to the public for a last time in the hope that "The Emigrants" will find a new home away from home.

Octav Băncilă (1872-1944) • The Emigrants [€ 7,000]
Keeping in mind that nearly a quarter of the artworks didn't get a winning bid, I'm pretty fine with the auction result.
